We were disappointed to arrive on a day when the swimming wasn't available during the summer. The rangers were friendly though and gave us information on some of the hikes and water areas available. … Full review by Emi W

Gorgeous piece of North Carolina. Good trails that are challenging but not overly hard, that you can definitely do with family. Beautiful falls scattered throughout, and a stunning view from the top … Full review by intactwf
Hi there, do the group camping sites have a grate to cook over a fire? Thanks!

Not sure. I know the campgrounds and cabins have grates. Call the park office to find out specifics. My bet is if it's a primitive site probably. If it doesn't, you are probably going to see where previous campers had their fires. Use that spot to avoid further damage to the ground/surroundings.

You'll need to contact the ranger station about that. I see from the map that there are two bathhouses in the camping area, with water spigots spaced out about every 5 sites. You might be able to borrow power for inflating the mattress from a fellow camper with a generator, or ask a cabin renter to use their electricity. Call them at 336-593-8480.

I wonder what you mean by 'safe'...yes, it is like all the other North Carolina state parks, well-managed with clean restrooms, patrolled by staff, and frequented most by families, young couples, hikers and climbers, and groups of kids from church field trips. As in all outdoor activities when you are in the wilderness, safety and accident prevention are in your own hands. Pay attention to where you walk and step, both for watching for snakes and also for cliffs and steep elevations. Keep an eye to the weather, and be careful around waterfalls and creeks, as they are dangerous if not respected.
